'We have a unique opportunity to stamp our legacy in the history books' - Lam

WHEN I arrived in Bristol in the summer of 2017, I was amazed at the passion and relentless determination to achieve sporting success in the city.

We knew, that to become the club we need to be, it would require a huge shift in mindset. So, we adopted a positive ‘winning’ mentality. Cultivated an environment that demands hard work. Engaged with our local schools and clubs to develop fantastic people and fantastic ambassadors.

Our vision is clear for all to see: ‘To Inspire Our Community Through Rugby Success’. That mantra permeates everything we do and drives us forward. My first mission – alongside our coaching team – was to deliver Premiership Rugby to the city. We’ve succeeded in that, but the process is far greater than the outcome, and we’re only just getting started.

We believe that the clarity of vision will drive the ambition. We are working hard with our award-winning Community Foundation to engage with local schools and clubs and our Academy has its biggest ever intake of players. We have developed strong links with our combination clubs. By continuing to engage with our city and strengthening our roots in our community, we are confident that we will continue to grow.

On field, we have attracted some of the best players in the world to the club, who can act as mentors for our core of young Bristolians. We are a younger squad than ever before with a focus on English-qualified talent.

For Bristol Bears to become a Champions Cup team, we need a ‘Champions Cup’ attitude in everything we do. We are establishing a pathway for England players, expanding our Academy network and working hard with our young players to ensure homegrown Bristolians are at the very core of our team.

I firmly believe that with the backing of Stephen Lansdown and our magnificent supporters, we are capable of delivering upon a bright new era for Bristol Bears, certainly the most exciting period in this club’s long history. As a collective – players, staff, supporters – we must capitalize on this chance and not let it slip away.

The bear is emblematic of leadership, of strength and confidence, of standing against adversity and taking action. This animal is feared and admired for its power. Its presence inspires respect.

We have a unique opportunity to stamp our legacy in the history books. We believe we can be a Champions Cup winning team and we believe that we can inspire a Bristol community to fill Ashton Gate. Stay with us and help us realise that dream.

Together we rise.
