Report: Bristol Ladies 5-17 Wasps Ladies

Bristol Ladies slipped to a second successive defeat in the Tyrrells Premier 15s, going down to Wasps Ladies on Saturday.

Kim Oliver’s side were the more dominant of the two in the opening exchanges but Wasps showed stubbornness in defence to stop Bristol getting over the line.

Clara Nielson and Claire Molloy continually linked up well allowing Bristol to gain momentum and getting the hosts into a scoring position but the Bristol Ladies couldn’t quite make the final pass to score.

Cat McNaney continued her scintillating start to the season and broke the deadlock in the first half with the full-back’s score putting Bristol 5-0 up.

Lagi Tuima was impressive with ball in hand as Bristol looked dangerous going forward, continually applying pressure on the Wasps line, but to no avail.

In the latter stages of the first half the tables turned and Wasps kept possession well and found themselves in a scoring position, but Bristol held firm to take a 5-0 lead at half-time.

Wasps started the second half the brighter of the two sides as they drew level thanks to a try from Gemma Rowland who bull-dozed her way over the line from short range.

Bristol responded well and applied some pressure of their own, they were unlucky not to have scored but for brave defence by the Wasps as Amber Reed was held up over the line.

Wasps won a scrum against the head on Bristol’s five metre line and made the extra possession count as Harriet Millar-Mills got over the white-wash, Wasps taking the lead 5-10.

They then went on to seal the victory late on as Abby Dowberg finished well in the corner under pressure to make the final score 5-17 to Wasps Ladies.

Bristol Ladies will be looking to get back to winning ways as they travel to Saracens next weekend in round 7 of the Tyrrell’s Premier 15’s.
