Bristol Rugby rounded off the regular campaign with a comprehensive 39-6 victory over Bedford Blues on Saturday.

Andy Robinson’s men scored six tries against their semi-final opponents as Ryan Edwards (2), Jack Lam, Gaston Cortes, Luke Arscott and David Lemi all crossed at Goldington Road.

Callum Sheedy nudged Bristol ahead with a penalty goal during an assured opening period from the visitors.

And David Lemi extended the lead when the captain showed lightning acceleration to skip past several defenders and touch down under the posts.

Myles Dorrian got points on the board for Bedford on the quarter hour, but Jack Lam’s close-range effort moved Bristol 3-13 ahead.

Marc Jones and Ben Glynn saw yellow cards in quick succession to reduce Robinson’s side to thirteen, before James Currie was sin-binned for Bedford as the flurry of cards continued.

On the stroke of the interval, Gaston Cortes muscled his way over the whitewash to hand Bristol a commanding 6-20 advantage at half-time.

Ryan Edwards sealed the bonus point ten minutes into the second period when the winger evaded his marker to stretch over in the corner for an unconverted score.

And Edwards grabbed a second before the hour mark to put the result beyond doubt, although any joy was tempered by the sight of Jack Lam and Marc Jones being helped from the field by the medical staff in quick succession.

Ben Mosses went close late on, before Luke Arscott crossed in the final play of the game as Bristol ran out comfortable winners in the April sunshine at Goldington Road.
