Giltrow pens professional deal after successful trial

Alex Giltrow has signed a professional contract with Bristol Rugby until the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

The tighthead prop – who joined on trial from Clifton RFC during the summer – agrees a deal to remain with the club on a full-time basis.

Giltrow was handed a unique opportunity by Head Coach Pat Lam when he was selected from a local club to trial during pre-season.

“Every season I like to give a local player a chance to impress and Alex has come in from Clifton RFC and worked really hard,” said Lam.

“He’s been an excellent example of the quality within the Bristol combination"

“He’s been an excellent example of the quality within the Bristol combination and the coaching team have been pleased with the attitude Alex has shown.

“Now, the impetus is on Alex to keep progressing and to contribute to our goals for the campaign ahead.”

The 26 year-old made two appearances in August versus Harlequins and Bath before suffering a rib cartilage injury.

He added: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being a part of Bristol Rugby’s environment and I’m learning and developing as a player every day.

“I’m hugely grateful to Giacomini UK Ltd, the company where I previously worked, for supporting my ambitions to secure a professional contract throughout the pre-season.

“The opportunity to sign my first professional contract is obviously a proud moment for me and I’m determined to push for a starting place during the campaign.”
