Back rower relishing move to the Memorial Stadium

Ben Skirving is relishing the prospect of pulling on a Bristol jersey after signing for the Club on Tuesday.

The England international – who joins from Aviva Premiership outfit Bath – admits he is attracted to the challenge awaiting him at the Memorial Stadium.

“The ambition of the Club was a huge attraction to me,” said Skirving. “I spoke with Liam [Middleton] and we discussed his values and the culture he has instilled within the Club.

“It’s clear that Bristol Rugby want to push forward over the next few years, and that ethos and vision really fits into my personal beliefs as a player.

“It wasn’t a difficult decision to potentially drop down a league. I’ve played in the Aviva Premiership for eleven years and that’s where I want to play  - Bristol are in a good position to push back into the top flight.

“It’s such a unique situation. The challenge and the excitement around Bristol Rugby and the direction they are taking is extremely positive.

A hugely experienced performer, the 28 year-old says he is looking forward to joining up with the first team squad in the summer.

He added: “I’ll hopefully continue playing in the form that I am in at the moment. I’ll bring a bit of experience and leadership to what is already a high-quality squad.

“We’ve trained against Bristol this season – they’re a hard working side who play for each other. There is a strong ethos here and I am excited to be a part of that.”
