Road Closures Announced For MetroBus Works

Bristol Sport has been notified of MetroBus works that will lead to Winterstoke Road closures, affecting supporters attending matchdays in December and January.

In addition, the Avonline car park – on the Cala Trading Estate – will also be affected by the ongoing works during this period.

A full closure will take place from 8pm on Saturday, December 3rd until 8pm on Sunday, December 4th. Winterstoke Road will be closed in both directions from the roundabout at Wedlock Way to the Ashton Gate Underpass. This is to ensure beams are put in place for a new bridge for use by MetroBus.

A further ten consecutive weekend closures will follow – again from 8pm Saturday to 8pm Sunday – this time with just one side of the road closed between Barons Close and the Ashton Gate Underpass (in the direction heading away from Ashton Gate towards the Long Ashton Bypass/Portway).

Councillor Mark Bradshaw, Bristol City Council Lead Cabinet Member for Transport, says: “The new bridge is an essential part of the 50km MetroBus network. The bridge crosses the Portbury freight railway line and means MetroBus can avoid Winterstoke Road and the Cumberland Basin where congestion is forecast to increase in the coming years.

"The bridge and the other significant improvements MetroBus is making to public transport will benefit everyone across our region - bus passengers will benefit from quicker and more reliable journey times and as buses become more reliable more people will be willing to leave their car at home which eases traffic congestion for everyone."

“I’m grateful to Bristol Sport for their assistance in communicating key dates and times about these construction works to their fans and supporters.”
