Head Coach pleased with forwards display

Liam Middleton hailed his forwards after Bristol Rugby secured a crucial 12-9 victory over high-flying Leeds Carnegie on Friday evening.

In torrential conditions at the Memorial Stadium, the hosts raced into a twelve-point lead at the break, before holding out for a valuable win.

“It was just about winning on Friday, so I’m glad we did that,” explained the Head Coach. “During the first half, we showed what a dangerous team we are to play against, but the conditions in the second period didn’t encourage positive rugby.

“The wind and driving rain was influential, as we saw with Adrian [Jarvis]’s penalty into the wind. I was disappointed to give Leeds the losing bonus point, but the conditions dictated that. The weather played a huge part, so it was just about getting the win.

“The scrum was phenomenal – we were extremely dominant. It was an area that we knew we could take them on, and that proved to be the case. We had a lot of dominance there.

“We had a few problems with the lineout, but we will review that. I said to the boys in the post-match huddle that the first half showed we are real contenders for this competition.

“The second half showed that we can win tight games, because we need to stay in the fight every week now.”
