Head Coach hails nine-try victory

Liam Middleton hailed a ‘fantastic attacking performance’ after watching his side romp to a 61-12 victory over Cardiff on Friday.

The win – Bristol’s sixth in Pool One of the B&I Cup – guarantees a place in the competition’s knockout stages.

“The all-round work rate of the players was excellent,” said the Head Coach. “We showed great shape and accuracy in our attack, and a lot of commitment in defence.

“In dry conditions, we showed how dangerous we can be with ball in hand. A number of tries we scored on Friday showed true class. The quality of handling, the precision, it was a fantastic attacking performance.

“One-sided affairs like this can risk fizzling out, so we spoke at half time about doing the same and showing the same positive intent. We died off a little in the last ten minutes, but overall we were very good.”

With a 100% record in the B&I Cup this season, Bristol will now prepare for a home quarter final on the weekend of April 5/6/7.

Middleton added: “We’re delighted to have achieved our aim of a quarter final spot. Six out of six in a tough pool is something we can be pleased with.

“This was a good finish to the pool competition and now we’re in the knockout stages, anything could happen.

“It’s given us some momentum and confidence going into Saturday’s crucial game with Bedford at Goldington Road.”
