McIlwaine: Let's Build On Winning Performance
Utility back relishing tough test at Brickfields
David McIlwaine admits the players are relishing the opportunity to prove themselves against Plymouth Albion on Saturday, 24 November.
Bristol have won just once on the road this season, overcoming Doncaster 18-9 in early September, but McIlwaine insists confidence is high ahead of the trip to Brickfields.
“The victory over Jersey was really important,” said the 22 year-old. “We needed to respond after the disappointing result at Meadow Lane and I think we did that.
“To pick up the bonus point gave us a boost and, if we can build on that performance, we’ll be in a good position to start climbing the league table.
“The supporters turned out in force on Sunday and it made a difference. As a player, it’s great to know that the fans are behind us and that spurred us on.
“We’ve got a free weekend coming up and it’s a chance for everybody to refuel and set our sights on Plymouth, which is another massive game for us.
“Brickfields is a tough place to go and Plymouth have been in excellent form so far this season – it’s an opportunity to prove ourselves and show what we can do.
“Confidence is high in the camp and the win on Sunday picked everybody up after a tough week. The belief is there that we can carry on where we left off and get another positive result next weekend.”
