"His versatility will be a benefit to us during such a long, gruelling campaign.”

The South-African back-rower, who can cover both flanker and no. 8, made the switch to the Recreation Ground in October 2012.

The 24 year-old has four years of Super Rugby experience with the Stormers, making twenty-six appearances and scoring twice.

“Nick’s a hungry, young performer and – as we saw in the recent pre-season friendly against Bath – he’s a real talent,” said Director of Rugby Andy Robinson.

“Nick gives us another option in a competitive back row. His versatility will be a benefit to us during such a long, gruelling campaign.”

At 6’4’’ and weighing in at over 100kg, the imposing Koster has represented South Africa at all age-group levels.

He said: “Bristol is a great Club who clearly have ambitions to be in the top flight.

“There are some excellent players in the squad already, so I’m relishing the opportunity to work hard to force my way into the starting line-up.

“I’m still learning as a player and experiencing a league as combative as the Championship will only be good for my development.”
