Notts, Links & Derbys U20 30 - 34 Gloucestershire U20s

Gloucestershire U20s’ unbeaten start to the campaign continued with a hard-fought 34-30 victory over Notts, Links & Derbys U20s at Derby RFC on Sunday.

The visitors raced into an early lead, courtesy of tries from Auguy Slowik and Luke Crunden, but Notts, Links & Derbys hit back to ensure a tense finale.

The home side reduced the deficit when centre Jake Roome crossed, but Dursley wing Ed Sheldon’s spectacular converted try made it 21-7 midway through the first period.

Notts, Links & Derbys scored two quickfire tries after the interval through Henri Packard and Grant Ward, before Old Reds flanker Max Woodward burrowed over from close range to give Gloucestershire U20s breathing space at 34-20.

The hosts refused to give up however, and Ward’s second of the afternoon, as well as a solo effort from the impressive Wigglesworth ran Mike Panaho’s men close.

Gloucestershire will look to build on an unconvincing win in the final group game, at home to North Midlands at Cinderford RFC on Sunday, 10 February.
