Eves: Bonus Point Was Crucial

Centre delighted to pick up maximum points

Luke Eves insists there is still room for improvement, despite Bristol Rugby moving back into the RFU Championship top four with a bonus-point win on Sunday.

Bristol saw off Rotherham Titans 30-20 at the Memorial Stadium, with the ever-present centre crossing for the crucial fourth try late in the game.

“Getting the five points was absolutely crucial for us,” said Eves. “With the teams around us slipping up this weekend, it was vital we picked up maximum points to close the gap.

“We’re slightly disappointed to have switched off – I think we made it difficult for ourselves. We conceded two soft tries and let them back in, when really we should have kicked on and put the result in no doubt.

“There are plenty of positives to take  - the bonus point and another win at home – but we won’t get ahead of ourselves because we can still improve our performances.”

Bristol face Bedford in a mouthwatering clash at Goldington Road next and the centre – who made his one-hundredth first team appearance against Rotherham – admits there are no easy games in the race for the play-offs.

He added: “We can’t look past our next game because we put ourselves in this position. It’s in our hands but we have to go out and better our performances week on week.

“Bedford is such a tough place to go and there’s a lot of difficult games ahead, but if we can maintain this winning mentality, we are in with a shout.”
