Capel takes the reins as Community Foundation development manager

Bristol Rugby Community Foundation is delighted to announce that Craig Capel has been appointed as the charity’s new community development manager, succeeding Ben Breeze who took over as chief community officer of partner charity, Bristol Sport Foundation in September 2015.

Capel, who has been involved with the Community Foundation since 2009, takes the helm at the start of an exciting new era for the charity.

He said: “I am incredibly excited about the future for both Bristol Rugby Community Foundation and Bristol Rugby Club.

“Having the opportunity to work alongside great people from both organisations - who understand and recognise the value of our provision across Greater Bristol and the outcomes we can affect - is extremely fulfilling.

“The Community Foundation ‘wheel of provision’ continues to grow, engaging with more people across our community than we could ever imagine six years ago.

“My role is to continue supporting the development of our community programmes and its staff, whilst contributing to the Bristol Rugby vision of “inspiring the Bristol community through rugby success.”

The move follows Ben Breeze’s appointment as chief community officer of Bristol Sport Foundation, a partner charity of the Community Foundation.

Breeze was chief executive of the Community Foundation when it was founded in 2006. He was appointed chief community officer in September 2015.

“My role is to continue supporting the development of our community programmes and its staff, whilst contributing to the Bristol Rugby vision of “inspiring the Bristol community through rugby success.”

Ben said: “I would like to thank the trustees of Bristol Rugby Community Foundation for their support and open-minded approach as we reinvented the community offer.

“I would also like to thank the board, staff and players at Bristol Rugby for their help in growing and developing an offer that empowers some of the most disaffected people in our community to make positive and informed choices.

“I’m delighted to pass executive control to Craig Capel, who has helped develop the Foundation since joining in 2009 and look forward to a bright future for the charity.”

Community Foundation chair of trustees, Charles Russell-Smith said: “Ben has been a driving force behind the Community Foundation for the past 11 years and should be extremely proud of all that has been achieved.”

“He is held in the highest regard by all of those who have worked with him and the trustees would like to thank Ben for his inspirational leadership during this period.

“Ben has helped build a highly-motivated team that continues to deliver award-winning programmes and we are delighted that Craig has been appointed to take the Foundation forward into the next phase of its development.”

Bristol Sport Foundation chair of trustees, Martin Griffiths, said: “The rapid growth of Bristol Sport Foundation has absorbed increasing amounts of Ben’s time and with an able replacement in Craig being available to run the Rugby Community Foundation, it is the right moment to make this change.

“This will enable Ben to focus 100% of his considerable energy and talent into taking the Bristol Sport Foundation to the next level.”
