Flyers to kick off new campaign

Bristol Academy Flyers are gearing up for the new season with an exciting exhibition match against a Team USA Select this week.

The Bristol Sport-backed basketball team, based at SGS College WISE Campus, are gearing up for their final season ahead of entry into the UK’s top professional basketball league, the BBL (in 2014/15).

As the build-up to the new campaign begins, a touring team from the States will be visiting Bristol on Thursday night (September 12th, tip off 7.30pm) incorporating players from NCAA Division 1 and 2 colleges.

Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas promises it will be well worth the wait.

Kapoulas said: “There have been a few changes in our roster over the summer and this season we are going to be younger than we have ever been before.

“It is a very exciting group of players to work with and the style of play will really fascinate all our spectators and supporters.”

The Greek coach added: “The USA exhibition game is always very well attended and signifies the start of the season.

“This will be a very special journey and season for our club as we are entering a new era with the recent franchise agreement to enter the British Basketball League in September 2014.”

The match will be played at WISE Basketball Arena, SGS WISE Campus, New Road, Bristol, BS34 8LP. Spectators are advised that parking at WISE campus will be extremely busy due to other events taking place on the day.

Alternative parking will be available across the road at Friends Life car park, AXA Centre, BS34 8SW.  Please allow extra time for your visit to the WISE campus and look for the relevant car park signs.
