Injury update ahead of new season

George Watkins has been ruled out for five weeks following a metacarpal fracture. The winger sustained the injury in the pre-season defeat to Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park.

Meanwhile, Nicky Robinson could feature in the Greene King IPA Championship opener versus Cornish Pirates after returning to full training.

Tristan Roberts was forced off during the second period of the 76-0 victory over Clifton last Sunday. The fly half picked up a shoulder injury and will be out of action for an estimated two-three weeks.

Kyle Traynor and Jason Hobson are set to be available for selection ahead of the season opener having recovered from hamstring problems.

Mark Lilley’s rehabilitation from a sternum injury sustained against Exeter Chiefs is progressing well. The prop will return to training on Monday and could be available for selection ahead of Cornish Pirates.

Bryan Rennie is another player who has returned to full training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The centre could be available for selection before the end of September.

The long-term injured trio of Jack Wallace, Jack Tovey and Errie Claassens continue their rehabilitation, with Wallace and Claassens using the anti-gravity treadmill.

The medical department is monitoring Jack Tovey closely – the utility back is estimated to return in October.
