Ladies complete stunning unbeaten season

Bristol Ladies Second XV came from behind to beat Blackheath and secure the Championship South West Two West title last weekend.

Peter Reakes’ side completed a stunning unbeaten season with a nailbiting 14-13 victory at the Portway Development Centre, as Deborah Fleming bagged a brace to earn promotion.

“I am extremely proud of the team today,” said Reakes. “The defence was awesome. This has won us games all season and it showed today.

"Blackheath tried to throw everything at us but with two evenly matched teams the difference was that we took our chances when we had them and they didn’t.

“We finished the season top of the table, undefeated and promoted. Not bad! I am proud to have been part of the most successful second team in Bristol colours.”

Meanwhile, having already secured a place in the top four of the RFUW Premiership, the first team fell to a disappointing 24-15 loss at the hands of Richmond.

England international Sally Tuson and Dyddgu Hywell (2) touched down, but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat in the final game of the campaign.
