Bristol Trio Represent England
Joyce, Carpenter and Slowik play in France
Three of Bristol Rugby’s brightest talents represented the national team on the weekend, as England’s age grade sides experienced mixed results against their French counterparts.
Nick Carpenter (EPDG Gold) and Joe Joyce (Bristol Academy) came off the bench to help England U19s to a 22-6 victory, while Lucas Slowik scored a try as England U17s fell to a 38-25 defeat in Givors.
RFU Professional Player Development Manager John Fletcher, who is responsible for the U15 – U19 player development programme, was delighted with both sides and said: "The U17s matched the French in all areas and had opportunities to win the game.
“On reflection the French were deserved winners as they had more threat in the backs and we dropped off too many tackles. They scored last play when we were pushing to try and win the game."
He added: "The U19s played really well and deserved to win a very physical game. The French have their players in their national centre from Monday to Thursday in the U19 year and they looked organised and caused us problems when they had the ball.”
