Director of Rugby hails courageous display

Andy Robinson hailed a ‘courageous’ performance at Kingston Park, as Bristol Rugby became the first side to record victory over Newcastle Falcons this season.

Fautua Otto’s first half try and a committed defensive display proved the difference, and the Director of Rugby has called for his players to match those levels on a consistent basis.

“We had to dig deep to win that game,” said Robinson. “I was pleased with our game management and the way we kept pushing on. The defence on the line was courageous and it shows what we can do.

“There is an understanding and commitment about what we want to do. It’s all we can ask as coaches - for the players to perform for the Club and each other.

“This is the level we have to push ourselves to be at. We sustained our performance for a full eighty minutes and we have to go that place every time we play.

“That’s exactly what is required for the whole of next season. We need to be at those levels and, make no mistake, we will work hard to achieve that.”

Bristol failed to achieve a place in the RFU Championship top four, but Robinson insists there is plenty to be positive about.

He added: “This performance gives us impetus going into the new season. We want to emulate what Newcastle have done, and we will work hard to achieve that.

“We have shown what we can do if we have the right attitude. We will train well over the summer and come back stronger next season.”
