First and Second XV seal impressive wins

Bristol Ladies first and second teams enjoyed another hugely successful weekend at the Portway Development Centre, as both sides picked up valuable wins.

The first XV – who have set their sights on a third placed finish in the Women’s Premiership saw off the challenge of London Wasps 59-12, while the second XV secured the South West Championship 2 title with a 31-0 win over Reading.

Amy Wilson-Hardy and Marlie Packer both bagged hat-tricks, while Amber Reed (2) and Kate Newton also crossed for the first team.

“There were some outstanding individual performances today,” said Head Coach Susie Appleby. “We had several new players on their debut who made impact from both the starting line up, and coming off the bench.

“A win like this builds to a really exciting time for the team, going into the last two league games and heading for a big finish.”

Meanwhile, the second XV secured a 31-0 win over Reading to complete a stunning unbeaten season. Becky Cox (2), Carmen Etheridge and Deborah Fleming (2) touched down to seal top spot in the league.

Coach Pete Reakes said: “I am very proud of the girls today. They did the job I asked them to do, which was to just go out and play, enjoy it, and keep the undefeated streak going.

“We have finished undefeated league winners and are now in the playoffs, so we will enjoy today, then there are two weeks of hard preparation.”
