Winters: Slow Start Cost Us
Lock forward says errors cost Bristol Rugby
Roy Winters rued Bristol’s slow start as Leinster ‘A’ secured a 26-30 victory in the B&I Cup quarter-finals at the Memorial Stadium.
The hosts trailed 0-10 on the quarter-hour mark, as Leinster crossed for two quickfire efforts early in the game.
“The first twenty minutes of the first half killed us,” said the lock forward. “We kept coughing up possession and the ten point gap cost us. Naturally, we’re very disappointed because we want to win every game.
“We have to give Leinster credit – they’re a very strong side. We made a lot of errors and we have a lot to learn from that. We made a lot of errors and that’s going to be the result if you do.
“Leinster made the passes stick and they were more clinical than us. If you don’t win, it’s always a disappointment but we have to come back from this.”
Bristol now prepare for two crucial RFU Championship clashes as they bid to qualify for the play-offs.
Winters added: “I don’t want this to be my last game at the Memorial Stadium, if we can get to a semi-final then we will have another crack at it.
“It’s obviously out of our hands and we have left ourselves with a lot to do. We have some massive games and all we can do is win those and rely on other results.”
