SGS Filton retain Sedbergh Tens title
Bristol Apprentices storm to tournament victory
SGS Filton College bounced back from a disappointing first round exit at the Rosslyn Park Sevens to retain their Sedbergh Tens title in style.
Led by Captain, Monty Reed, and Player of the Tournament, Nick Carpenter, the Bristol-based college ran riot, scoring 241 points in just six games of twelve minutes per-half.
In the group stage, SGS Filton recorded wins over Lancaster (58-0), Kirkham Grammar (57-7), Barnard Castle (29-5) and Blackrock School (29-10), before beating Brighton College 29-10 in the semi-final.
In the final, Rosslyn Park champions and host school Sedbergh were no match for a rampant Filton who ran out 39-0 winners to retain their crown, with Carpenter scoring a hat-trick.
Head Coach George Tavner was delighted with his team’s performance, he said: “We had a bit of a setback last week at Rosslyn Park so for the players to bounce back and play like this shows everything about the character that exists within this group of players.
“What they achieved this weekend was a bit special and the manner in which they played made me very proud."
