Hooker relishing crunch battle with Exiles

Rhys Lawrence remains upbeat ahead ahead of Saturday’s crunch clash with London Scottish at the Richmond Athletic Ground (3pm KO).

Bristol need a victory to keep alive any hopes of a place in the RFU Championship top four, and the hooker believes the players are full of confidence.

“This is a big game for us and we’re really looking forward to it,” said Lawrence. “We were disappointed to lose last weekend against Leinster, but there were encouraging elements of that game that we can build on this week.

“We can’t afford any errors against London Scottish. Obviously, we’re relying on other results going our way, but we can’t worry about that too much. All we can do is focus on ourselves and get the win under our belt.

“Scottish are a strong side and they have an impressive record at home. We showed a lot of grit to win away in Jersey and it will be a similar atmosphere again on Saturday.”

The 24 year-old – who received the Man Of The Match for his display in the B&I Cup quarter-final – has called on the travelling support to make themselves heard at the Richmond Athletic Ground.

He added: “We need a massive performance on the weekend and the boys are determined to keep us in the mix and take it right to the wire.

“The fans were brilliant at Jersey, they kept us going even when we were behind in the second half. We’ll need that spirit again because it will be a tough eighty minutes.”
