Robinson: We Showed Plenty Of Fight
Director of Rugby pleased with winning display
Andy Robinson praised the character of his players after watching Bristol Rugby come from behind to secure a 29-23 victory over Jersey at St Peter.
Trailing by eight points with twenty minutes remaining, the visitors fought back to seal the win and, in the process, end a run of two successive league defeats.
“We knew it was going to be tough game and Jersey put us under huge pressure during periods of the match,” admitted the Director of Rugby.
“We allowed them a route into the game through poor discipline. Credit to Jersey, they played some excellent rugby and that’s exactly what you want in the RFU Championship.
“It’s tough conditions to play in and the pitch can be a leveler. I thought we showed plenty of fight and it was a real team performance – everybody played their part.
“We missed three chances in the first half and two in the second, that’s something that we will work on and try to improve. At half time, we talked about the need to show character, and credit to the guys; they showed that to turn it around.
Bristol face Plymouth Albion on Sunday in the Sky Sports televised game at the Memorial Stadium (4.05pm KO), and Robinson believes his side are still in the race.
He added: “We are still in the fight, but we need to continue working hard. We targeted a win on Saturday and, although we didn’t make it easy for ourselves, we achieved what we set out to do.
“It’s important that we learn to take our chances, we did that at the end and I’m pleased for the guys because they showed plenty of determination.”
