Winger ready to help fulfil Premiership ambition

Charlie Amesbury spoke of his ambitions to play Aviva Premiership rugby with Bristol, after the winger’s move from Sale Sharks was confirmed on Monday.

The 26 year-old – who joins up with the squad at the beginning of the new campaign – admitted he was impressed by the ‘real intent’ shown by the Club.

“I sensed a real excitement and buzz about the place when I came down to meet Liam [Middleton] and look around the training ground.

“Bristol has a solid foundation and there’s a feeling that it is going places. Every rugby club talks about their ambition, but there is a vision here and a confidence among the coaches and players that it can be achieved.

“Bristol has an illustrious history and they want top-flight rugby and success. The ambition and quality to gain promotion is there, and the player and coach recruitment so far shows a real intent that I’m confident will be matched on the pitch.

“Playing Premiership rugby is obviously where I want to be – it’s the pinnacle of a rugby career. I know a few of the boys from my time at Falcons – I know Luke Eves, Redford Pennycook and Glen Townson well.

“It makes it easier to come and join a new Club because they are honest, quality players. I’m excited to join up with a squad of players who I respect, and I’m relishing the chance to play for Bristol.”
