Watkins: We'll Take The Positives
Winger says Bristol will learn lessons from defeat
George Watkins insists Bristol’s play-off ambitions won’t be dented, despite going down 19-23 to Nottingham on Friday.
Liam Middleton’s men conceded a try either side of half time in a first defeat at the Memorial Stadium since September.
“Silly errors cost us on Friday,” admitted the winger. “We have to take the positives from the loss though, because we were in the game all the way to the final whistle, and had chances to win.
“We still believe that we can make the play-offs. It was a disappointing result, but it won’t take away our momentum. It went their way but it won’t derail our season – we have to get back to winning ways now.
“I think, in a way, it’s good that those errors have crept in now during a big game, rather than later on in the season. We have chances to correct our errors and put things right.”
Watkins grabbed his tenth try of the season with a sublime solo effort in the second half, ensuring Bristol picked up a losing bonus point.
He added: “Every point counts come the end of the season, because it’s so tight at the top of the Championship. We’re very disappointed to lose at home, but picking up a losing bonus point could play a real part come the end of the season.
“It won’t make up for the loss, and we’re not happy with the result, but the guys are determined to work hard on the training ground and put things right.”
