Winger calls for big performance on Saturday

George Watkins insists says Bristol Rugby will be full of confidence ahead of Saturday’s crucial battle with Bedford Blues at Goldington Road (3pm KO).

Liam Middleton’s side have won four in a row in all competitions since defeat to Cornish Pirates on New Year’s Day, moving back into the RFU Championship top four in the process.

“It’s so tight at the top of the table right now,” said Watkins. “There are a handful of teams battling for a spot in the play-off places, so every game is critical to us.

“We can only focus on our game and our performances, and we’ve been preparing well for Saturday’s game, everybody is looking forward to it.

“Bedford are one of the most dangerous teams in the RFU Championship, so we can’t afford to give them any space because they will punish us.

“Defensively, we’ve been pretty solid in recent weeks, it’s just a case of keeping our concentration levels up for the full eighty minutes.

“We showed against Cardiff what we can do when we have ball in hand, so there is plenty of confidence among the squad at the moment.

“We’ll go to Bedford knowing that we will need to put in a very strong display to beat them on their own patch, but there’s a real belief that we can.”
