Northampton lock joins for 2013/14 campaign

Bristol Rugby have added another proven Aviva Premiership performer to their ranks, with the capture of Mark Sorenson from Northampton Saints ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.

The English qualified lock has a wealth of Premiership and Heineken Cup experience, making one-hundred appearances in the top-flight with Newcastle Falcons, before making the switch to Franklins Gardens.

A key member of the first team squad, Sorenson has featured eighty-six times in a Northampton shirt, including twenty-three appearances already this season.

“Mark brings with him a record of consistently high standards,” said Head Coach Liam Middleton. “An impressive character, he will bring an enormous amount to Bristol both on and off the field.

“He has a big capacity for work, testimony to his professional attitude to his physical condition.

“The fact that he has already featured twenty-three times this season in the Premiership, Heineken Cup and LV Cup reflects how valuable he is to the team he plays for, and a representation of his durability.”

Voted 2007/8 Supporters Club player of the season and Player’s Player of the season whilst at Newcastle Falcons, Sorenson began his career at New Zealand province Bay of Plenty.

He added: “It’s a new challenge for me to join Bristol Rugby. I still hold a lot of aspirations as a player, so I wanted to join a Club that was moving forward.

“The facilities at Bristol are great, and the coaching staff are developing a team and a culture that will excel at the top-level.

“It’s an exciting time to be here and I’m looking forward to playing my part and helping the Club progress.”
