Bristol to share future home with football club

With news that Bristol City has brought forward viable alternative plans to redevelop Ashton Gate into a 26,000-seater stadium, Bristol Rugby can confirm its intention to groundshare with the football club.

Bristol Rugby will continue to play at the Memorial Stadium for season 2013/14.

But with either a redeveloped Ashton Gate or a brand new stadium at Ashton Vale, Bristol Rugby intends to move across as soon as this is possible.

Bristol Rugby chairman Chris Booy says: “We can confirm that Bristol Rugby will in the future share a home with Bristol City.

“We now know that in the foreseeable future there will either be a new stadium at Ashton Vale or a redeveloped multi-purpose stadium at Ashton Gate.

"I am therefore now able to confirm that it is our intention to groundshare with the football club in the future.

“Whichever outcome, new stadium or a redeveloped one, this is an exciting project to be linked with and represents a bright future for our club.”

A Desso pitch will be installed at Ashton Vale or Ashton Gate to cope with the multi-purpose nature of hosting both football and rugby.
