Watkins: It's A Massive Result For Us
Winger hails solid defensive performance

George Watkins paid tribute to a strong defensive display as Bristol Rugby held firm to record a 14-8 victory over second-placed Ulster Ravens in Pool One of the B&I Cup.
In a game played in atrocious conditions, Bristol led from the first minute and – despite a late onslaught from the hosts – recorded a hard-earned win.
“It was never going to be easy, especially with the way that Ulster play,” said the winger. “We knew how dangerous they can be so we expected a tough game.
“We fought it out at the end and we did really well defensively. They didn’t threaten us too often. It’s a massive result for us in terms of the B&I Cup.
“We spoke about playing with a bit more bravery, and we came out early doors, moved the ball wide and it paid off for us.
“The early score really helped, because neither side could get a foothold in the game. The weather meant that it was difficult to build any momentum and build any phases."
But Watkins, who rounded off a fine backline move to score in the opening minutes, insists there is still plenty of work to do to ensure qualification to the knockout stages.
He said: “We have Cardiff on Sunday and we’ll treat it like any other game. We’ll have a week of grafting because we’re desperate to win – not just to qualify but to continue building confidence.
“We want to fight on both fronts this season and there’s some hugely important fixtures coming up. High-pressure games like Friday evening will be a positive experience for us.”
