Middleton: It Was A Solid Performance
Head Coach pleased with Deramore Park display
Liam Middleton praised a ‘dominant’ performance after Bristol Rugby grinded out a 14-8 victory over Ulster Ravens in appalling conditions on Friday evening.
The win – the Club’s fifth in a row in Pool One of the B&I Cup – leaves Bristol needing just one point to qualify for the knockout stages.
“It was a solid performance and – considering the conditions – we were accurate and put some phases together,” said the Head Coach.
“I thought we were dominant in every area of the game, our scrum was good and we defended well, particularly at the death.
“The conditions didn’t help. Weather like this brings two sides closer together, but I thought we handled the situation well and showed good discipline.
Bristol play host to Cardiff at the Memorial Stadium on Sunday (3pm KO), knowing that a quarter-final spot is within their grasp.
“It’s amazing that we’ve won all the games in our pool and yet we still need another win in our final game,” added Middleton.
“In my opinion, this is the toughest pool in the competition and we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to get the win against the Ravens.
“We’ll take a lot of confidence into Sunday’s game and we expect a difficult encounter against Cardiff, because it was tough at Arms Park.”
