Middleton: Inaccuracy Cost Us The Game
Head Coach rues errors as Bristol slip to defeat
Liam Middleton rued ‘ill-discipline and inaccuracy’ as Bristol Rugby’s six-match winning run grinded to a halt at Mennaye Field on Tuesday.
Bristol went down 32-17 to Cornish Pirates to slip out of the play-off places, but the Head Coach insists his players have the ability to climb the RFU Championship table.
“Our all-round performance was poor against Pirates,” he admitted. “We went down fifteen points in the opening twenty minutes, and that was the difference.
“I thought we improved in the second half, but we were dogged by inaccuracy and ill-discipline. It was poor discipline that led to their points, because we’re a good enough side to win here.
“We just didn’t control the game at all and inaccuracy makes you an easy side to beat. When you come to the Mennaye in front of their biggest attendance of the season, you have to be accurate in every facet, and we weren’t.
“We’re still good enough for top four – we haven’t lost confidence from this defeat. We have to pick ourselves up and our battle for a play-off place will continue.
“We won’t overhaul our game or make rash selection decisions – we just know that we need to be better and show what we are capable of consistently.”
