U18s set for clash with Exiles at Sunbury RFC
Bristol Academy U18s have announced the 22-man squad to face London Irish at Sunbury RFC on Saturday (2pm KO).
Consisting of players from schools across the region, the U18s open their campaign against the Exiles – their first of six fixtures against Clubs from the south of England.
Filton College skipper Monty Reed captains the side from no. 8, while Nick Carpenter and Lucas Slowik – both of whom have represented England this year – form the midfield partnership.
The RFU have introduced this U18s competitive playing programme on the recommendation of England U18 coaches John Fletcher and Pete Walton,” said Academy Manager Mike Hall.
“It will give the fourteen Academy Managers and the National Academy coaches a chance to see the best players from each region playing against one another.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to test our players against the best from the other southern Academies and to give them an opportunity to wear the Bristol shirt."
U18 Backs and Attack coach Keith Leaker added: "Our away game at London Irish will be the first opportunity for the Gold Group players to show how far they have developed since we first got together in September.
“This very talented and coachable squad are being encouraged to play a high tempo game with a freedom to take risks. As coaches, we are extremely confident they can meet this challenge."
