Sambucetti: The Standard Has Been Set
Lock forward believes Bristol have turned a corner
Mariano Sambucetti believes Bristol’s second half display in the 43-16 win over London Scottish will lay down a marker for the remainder of the season.
In arguably their most complete forty minutes of rugby during the campaign so far, Liam Middleton’s side scored four unanswered tries to seal the bonus point.
“We needed a performance like this to show that we are trying to turn a corner,” said the influential lock-forward.
“This has to be the standard now. We will not falter again like we did at Nottingham. We played particularly well for forty minutes and we said at half-time that we knew we could have been better in the first period.
“Credit to London Scottish because they didn’t make it easy for us. It was a tough game, but we expected that it would be difficult.
“There were a number of ex-Bristol players in their side and it’s always special when you play against your old team because you want to prove a point.
“We have to play at 100% every game now, irrespective of what competition we’re in. The standard has been set now and we have a squad of hungry players who are desperate to wear the shirt, so if we don’t perform, there’s someone waiting in the wings to come in and do a job.”
