Bristol Ladies Help England To Series Win
England take 2-0 series lead over New Zealand
Members of Bristol Ladies have taken to the international stage in the past week, with players called up to represent England Women in the fifteens and sevens formats of the game.
Three Bristol players wore the red rose of England during the November test series against the Black Ferns.
Sophie Hemming, Marlie Packer and Amber Reed all represented England, featuring in the 2-0 series victory over New Zealand.
In the opening game at Esher RFC, England Women came from 13-3 down to come back and beat the world champions 16-13. Tries from vice-captain Sarah Hunter and wing Kat Merchant sealed the win, while a penalty apiece from fly half Katy McLean and Emily Scarratt kept the scoreboard ticking over.
On Tuesday evening in Aldershot, tries from Hannah Gallagher and Joanne Watmore secured an impressive 17-8 victory over their Southern Hemisphere rivals.
“I am hugely excited to be back playing for England again,” said Hemming. “I have recently recovered from a hip injury and, during my rehab, this test series against New Zealand was my target.
"I’ve been working hard and was lucky enough to have had a smooth recovery, with lots of support to get me back in time.”
Meanwhile, Izzy Noel-Smith has been named in the England Sevens squad to compete in the opening round of the all-new IRB Women’s Sevens World Series at the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens this weekend.
