Sambucetti: It Was An Emotional Display

Lock forward believes victory showed pride in squad

Mariano Sambucetti hailed an ‘emotional performance’ from his teammates after Bristol Rugby sealed a 39-16 win over Jersey on Sunday.

And the Argentinian lock - who scored two tries in a match-of-the-match performance at the Memorial Stadium – believes the Club can build on the result.

“To score two tries is a bit rare for me,” said Sambucetti. “It’s a team effort – phase after phase and I was fortunate enough to be on the end of it.

“It was an emotional performance. You can train skill but not passion and we wanted to show what passion this group has. We pride ourselves on being a team with big hearts and we showed that.

“The spirit we displayed to come back and score six tries shows that we aren’t prepared to get a slap and just sit down and take it. We took a knock and we came back fighting.

“We have to learn our lesson after the defeat at Meadow Lane – we can’t look too far ahead now, we just have to build week on week and be patient. We have a chance to recuperate now with a free week, before attentions turn to Plymouth.”
