Townson: We'll Take Lessons From Defeat

Lock forward believes Bristol Rugby are improving week on week

17th August 2012 published by Tom Tainton

Bristol Rugby are showing clear signs of improvement as the pre-season campaign progresses, according to Glen Townson.

And the lock-forward insists there are plenty of positives to take from the 24-9 defeat to Munster on Friday night.

“We expected a difficult game and that’s exactly what we got,” said Townson. “Munster are a top-quality side, they’re a very physical outfit. They capitalized on our errors and made us pay for any mistakes in defence.

“I think, particularly in the first half, that we showed patches of what we’re capable of.  We were disciplined in defence, competed up front and our set-piece worked well.

“The early part of the second half was costly and we couldn’t find a way back from that. It’s still only mid-August, so in terms of the season it’s still early days.

“We have lots to learn and elements of our game to develop but we’re progressing nicely.

“We don’t want to be peaking in the first game of the season – it’s a gradual process and we’re building week on week to ensure we hit the ground running at the right time.”
