Bristol Rugby go into the new RFU Championship season brimming with confidence, according to James Merriman.
The Club open their account with the visit of newly relegated Newcastle Falcons to the Memorial Stadium on the first weekend of September.
“We can’t wait for the season to start,” said the flanker. “Newcastle coming down sets up a tough opener against them at the Mem. It will be a good test for us.
“They’ll be one of the strongest sides in the division but we won’t fear anybody in this league. Confidence is high and we’re all looking forward to getting underway.
“We proved at times last season that we can play an exciting brand of rugby and we’ll need to do that again this time around.”
With pre-season underway, Merriman insists plenty of hard work awaits before the start of the new campaign.
He added: “It’s been good to be back. There’s a real focus on what we want to achieve this season and the new faces have slotted straight into that culture.
“The boys have been put through their paces and the hard work will continue, so that we hit the ground running when the RFU Championship season comes around.”
