02nd July 2012 published by Tom Tainton

Matt Williams was ruled out of England’s FIRA AER Grand Prix Sevens success in Moscow after sustaining a hamstring injury.

The winger was one of three players to miss out, with Nick Royle (hand) and Jack Preece (knee) also picking up knocks.

England completed a clean sweep on day one with victories over the Netherlands (33-14), Wales (35-12), Georgia (47-7) and Russia (19-14).

Ben Ryan’s men continued their rich vein of form on the second day, beating Ukraine (19-7) and seeing off Spain (22-7) in the semi-finals.

England scooped the Moscow Sevens title with a closely-fought 21-15 win in the final.
