Mitch Eadie started at lock but couldn’t prevent Scotland U20s from suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Australia in the Junior World Championship opener on Monday.
Australia, one of the tournament favourites, racked up eleven tries in Cape Town, while Scotland scored two consolation scores through Andrew Redmaybe and winger Jamie Farndale.
The Scots were let down my sloppy defence, which allowed Jed Holloway (2), Nick Frisby, Hugh Roach, James Dargaville, Apolosi Latunipulu, Christopher Sautia-Feauai (2), Curtis Browning, Silatolu Latu and Maile Ngauamo through and over the line.
“We’re really disappointed,” said Head Coach Peter Wright. “We conceded far too many easy scores and dropped off too many tackles.
“The players stuck in right to the end though – our challenge now is to create as many opportunities when we play France later this week.”
Eadie and his teammates face France on Friday at the University of Western Cape (3.45pm KO).
