Breeze: Support For Foundation Has Been Incredible

Foundation Chief-Executive completes two gruelling challenges

22nd May 2012 published by Tom Tainton

Ben Breeze admitted he was overwhelmed by the support of fans, local businesses and the rugby community after raising over £1,800 in four days.

The Community Foundation Chief-Executive, who is embarking on a month of sporting activities to boost funds for the charity, took part in two events last weekend.

First, Breeze joined members of the BRIS Trust to undertake a grueling challenge – twenty-four hours of kayaking around the Bristol docks, covering over two-hundred kilometers.

Then, the former Bristol winger joined players, Community staff and Brizzley Bear to run the Bristol 10k on Sunday.

“It was an emotional weekend,” said Breeze. “I’m delighted to have completed both events and the support has been unbelievable.

“Twenty-four hours in a kayak was an experience I’ll never forget. I’d like to thank everybody who took part and George, Humpo and the BRIS Trust boys who did an excellent job in organizing the event.

“It was great to see so many Bristol supporters along the route of the 10k on Sunday, as well. Well done to the players and staff who joined me on the run.”

Next, Breeze will join over seventy other cyclists in the ‘Break The Cycle’ challenge, covering one-hundred miles between the Memorial Stadium, The Recreation Ground and Kingsholm.

He added: “Just to make it harder for myself, I’ll be covering the route a couple of days beforehand so I’ll be doing over two-hundred miles on the bike in total!

“The truth of the matter is, the Foundation has to raise 100% of the funds required to operate and survive and unfortunately we will not receive any central funding next season.

“I’m aiming to raise £3,000 in total so that we can continue to deliver life-changing interventions for disaffected young people.”
