Chairman's Report: Play-Off Semi-Final

Chris Booy says Bristol Rugby are good enough to win on Sunday

10th May 2012 published by Chris Booy

Well, that’s given us a challenge and a half…

Monday was not a good day at the office, but a two-leg semi final is designed to ensure teams have an even chance of progressing and the best team will go into the final.

We have a mountain to climb now, but remember we scored fourteen points in as many minutes at the start of the game against Cornish Pirates and if we do that again, it’s a 0-7 deficit and everything to play for.

It’s been done before and we are good enough to do it.

We’ll need the team on the top of their game, a bit of luck and a packed Mem, roaring the boys on. It’s backs to the walls now but we have an opportunity to make history. After a long season, we need you more than ever to get behind Liam Middleton and his side and spur them on to a memorable victory.

On the long journey back from Cornwall, I was reflecting on how far we have come in a year. From narrowly avoiding the relegation play offs to table toppers and promotion contenders this season. Some improvement, I’m sure you’ll agree.

We have secured the long-term support of Steve Lansdown. We have an exciting and developing squad and a coaching and support team committed to bringing Premiership rugby back to Bristol.

Make no mistake, that is the goal and we WILL achieve it.

Our vision is to re-establish ourselves as a Premiership force, and we have all been surprised by the enormous strides the team has taken this year. We had not targeted 2012 as the year we return to the top flight, but the ambition, potential and performance of the squad has made this possible  - and it still is.

We are the best team in the league. We have been all season and now we need to go out and prove it again.

Whatever happens on Sunday it has been a good season, we are going to continue to grow as a team and as a Club. We will strengthen where we need to and will continue to move forward.

The players will be coming at the Pirates on Sunday right from the start. No fear. No nerves. They will wear the shirt with pride and we will be 100% behind them. Bristol Fashion - I can’t wait.

Please come and support us. The city of Bristol is behind this special group of players.
