Gloucestershire Suffer Cornwall Defeat

Cornwall 23-16 Gloucestershire

10th May 2012 published by Tom Tainton

Gloucestershire’s campaign for the Bill Beaumont Cup made a faltering start with defeat to Cornwall at Redruth in the competition opener.

Sam Hocking and Richard Bright added tries for the hosts who ran out deserved winners, despite Nev Codlin grabbing a consolation for Gloucestershire.

Matt Salter’s men took an early lead courtesy of three Rory Teague penalties. But Richard Bright’s first half effort and six points from the boot of Brett Rule put the Cornishmen in control.

Sam Hocking’s close-range effort put the game out of reach, although Nev Codlin’s try from a counter attack gave the visitors hope.

“We didn’t take our chances,” said Coach Matt Salter. “We’re disappointed and frustrated with the result, but we must pick ourselves up for a must win game with North Midlands this weekend.”
