24-Hour Kayak Challenge Starts On Friday

Fundraising event takes place starts on Friday at 4pm

17th May 2012 published by Andrew Humphreys

On Friday afternoon, members of the Bristol Rugby Trust as well as ex-Bristol Rugby players will embark on a 24 hour kayak challenge, attempting to kayak 200 kilometres around Bristol Docks.

Starting out from the Benjamin Perry Boathouse on Redcliffe Quay, Ian Kirley and George Campbell, paddling a two man touring kayak, will aim to complete sixteen full circuits of Bristol Docks, from Cumberland Basin to Netham Lock gates and back.

They are doing this to raise funds for two very good causes, the Bristol Community Foundation as well as the Bristol Rugby Academy/Bristol Schools Rugby.

In the coming year, our target is to raise £3,000 for the Bristol Academy, £1,000 for Bristol Schools Rugby and £900 for a Bristol Community Foundation Project as well as £1,000 for next year’s Carol Humphreys Memorial Bursary. A nice round £10,000 would do nicely.  So please, dig deep and give generously, your contribution WILL make a difference.

Whilst Ian Kirley and George Campbell will be completing the full 200 kilometres, they are challenging other Bristol Rugby supporters, individuals and businesses to club together and form relay teams to try and beat them and the challenge.

You can sponsor them at the Trust website at www.brist.org.uk.
