Blackthorn Pete reflects on a successful Pool A campaign

28th April 2012 published by Blackthorn Pete

So, we now know who we’ll be facing in the RFU Championship knockout stages. Last week’s bonus point victory over Doncaster confirmed us as winners of Pool A and sets up a semi-final with Cornish Pirates.

The Knights proved to be stubborn opponents, but a positive Bristol display ensured we bagged the points and five tries. The backline looked threatening and the team will be high on confidence as reach the business end of the campaign.

Overall, Bristol’s Pool A campaign was characterised by a series of extremely tight encounters, although we got off to a tremendous start up at Castle Park. Much like the first phase of the competition, Bristol had the best record of any team – proving that we have the meanest defence and the most potent attack.

All that counts for nothing as we approach the semi-finals. We’ve had two tough games against the Pirates this season and they’re arguably the best side we have faced. It’s up to the supporters to turn out in force home and away to make ensure we have the very best chance of progressing to the final.

The other semi-final will be between Bedford Blues and London Welsh - another match-up that is too close to call.

Finally, I'd like to welcome Bruce Douglas, David McIlwaine, Bryan Rennie and Adrian Jarvis to the Club after their signings were announced midweek.

It's an incredibly exciting time to be a Bristol Rugby supporter at the moment and I'm sure the fans are pleased to see Liam Middleton bolstering his squad with quality ahead of next season.

See you on the Blackthorn.

C’mon Bris!
