Merriman Sidelined For 4-6 Weeks
Flanker set to return during play-off pool stages
James Merriman is facing up to six weeks on the sidelines after undergoing a knee operation earlier this week.
The influential flanker has made eighteen RFU Championship appearances this season, captaining the side on seven occasions.
Bristol Rugby's medical staff took the decision for Merriman to have surgery now in a bid to have the Welshman back to full fitness in time for the early stages of the play-offs.
“It’s frustrating to not be playing because I was really enjoying my rugby,” said the 28 year-old.
“But that’s part and parcel of the professional game and fortunately we have strength in depth in the squad to cover all positions.
"The operation went smoothly so now it is just a case of being patient and working hard during my rehabilitation to ensure I'm fit as quickly as possible.
"I can't wait to return to the field and play my part for Bristol during the remainder of the campaign."
