Lansdown: We Want To Get To The Top

Majority shareholder predicts bright future for Bristol Rugby

07th February 2012 published by Tom Tainton

Steve Lansdown predicts a bright future for Bristol Rugby after agreeing to become the majority shareholder in the Club.

And the former Bristol City Chairman, who has been involved behind the scenes for several years, believes Bristol has huge untapped potential.

“The city and supporters need a rugby club they can be proud of,” he said. “We want to give Bristol Rugby a focus and we want to get to the top.

“I want to see sport in Bristol to be successful across the board. It’s important that Bristol is financially stable and has the potential to develop into an even more successful Club in the future.

“We’ve recruited strongly for the end of season play-off push and it’s a question of Bristol living within their means and earning the right to receive investment.”

Lansdown will continue to work alongside Chairman Chris Booy and Chief-Executive Steve Gorvett and insists the Memorial Stadium will remain Bristol’s home.

He added: “The Memorial Stadium is Bristol’s spiritual home. The Club have always played there and I see no reason for that to change. Bristol will play where it is right to play, commercially and traditionally.

This is a positive announcement for the Club and shows that we are heading in the right direction.”
