Nine Bristol Ladies Selected For South West Squad

Bristol Ladies named in 30-person squad after trials in Bath

06th February 2012 published by Bristol Ladies

Nine Bristol Ladies players are one step closer on the International pathway after being selected for the South West Divisional Squad.

The new divisional programme, consisting of four divisions (North, Midlands, South West and London South East), is now in its second year.

The programme’s aim is to identify and develop potentially talented players to give them a greater opportunity to be selected for England (15s and 7s).

Each division plays against the other three ahead of selection for the Super 4’s (England trials). Seventy-two players, including sixteen Bristol Ladies, were invited to try out for the South West Division, having been selected from County level.

Held at Stothert and Pitt RFC on the outskirts on Bath, the players were split into four groups of similar positions.  Each group worked through four carousels involving handling, tackling, rucking and body position, all under the watchful eye of the coaching staff.

Bristol coaches LJ Adams and Pete Reakes were involved in the final selection process.

There are nine Bristol players in the squad of thirty, with Bristol’s LJ Adams taking on the role of Assistant Coach and forwards specialist.
