Bristol Welcome Home Redford Pennycook
Flanker returns to the Club from Newcastle Falcons
Bristol Rugby are proud to welcome back another homegrown talent, as back-rower Redford Pennycook returns to the Club from Newcastle Falcons.
The 26 year-old, who was registered ahead of deadline last week, spent four seasons at the Memorial Stadium after graduating through the Academy, making a total of 58 appearances since his debut against Bath in October 2005.
Pennycook, a former England U18s representative, becomes the third Falcons player to leave the Aviva Premiership for Bristol, joining centre Luke Eves and loan-signing Glen Townson.
The pacy openside flanker helped Bristol to the RFU Championship play-off final in 2010 before making the switch to Kingston Park and gaining valuable top-level experience.
“It’s pleasing to see Redford back at Bristol,” said Head Coach Liam Middleton. “He has shown a real ambition to play for the Club again.
“Redford fits the Club’s vision and, importantly, he knows how much it means to play for Bristol Rugby.
“He covers the ground quickly and offers us excellent breakdown skills. Redford also has the abrasiveness suited to our style of play.”
Pennycook added: “I’m really excited about returning to my boyhood Club. The coaching staff has built a young and vibrant squad, which will only get better.
“There is some stiff competition for places in the back-row but I am relishing the prospect of pulling on a Bristol shirt again.”
