MATCH DAY REPORTPlymouth Albion vs Bristol Rugby
Bristol Rugby 46-17 Plymouth Albion
Bristol Rugby rounded off their pre-season preparations with a convincing 46-17 defeat of Plymouth Albion on Saturday.
Ryan Edwards grabbed his second hat-trick in the space of five days, while Ross Rennie, Charlie Amesbury, Craig Hampson and Max Crumpton also touched down, while referee Simon Harding awarded a second half penalty try.
The home side went in front inside the opening five minutes as Eoghan Grace spotted a gap to run in for a converted try from close range.
Bristol responded almost immediately when Ryan Edwards collected Charlie Amesbury’s pass to skip over in the corner, although Jarvis couldn’t add the extras.
After Craig Hampson had crossed for his first try in Bristol colours, the winger added a second to stretch Bristol’s lead to 7-17 when he reacted fastest to a grubber kick through to dab down.
And the visitors pushed further ahead when Max Crumpton rounded off a superb team attack to touch down in the corner after a spell of pressure.
Ross Rennie notched Bristol’s fifth try in the opening forty minutes, rumbling over from a driving lineout, while Jarvis directed his conversion attempt wide of the upright.
Andy Robinson made six changes at half-time, but the procession of tries continued as referee Simon Harding awarded a penalty try soon after the restart.
But Plymouth hit back courtesy of Lawrence Raynor’s opportunist try. The fly half capitalized on Peter Homan’s break to cross in the corner, although he couldn’t convert his effort.
And the hosts reduced arrears again when Tom Jubb fended off a handful of defenders to muscle his way over for an unconverted try, moving the score to 17-34.
Bristol surpassed forty points when Ryan Edwards completed his second hat-trick in as many games, showing superb acceleration to leave two red shirts in his wake and touch down.
In the dying moments, Charlie Amesbury rounded off the scoring, touching down for Bristol’s eighth of the afternoon.
