MATCH DAY REPORTBristol Rugby vs Worcester Warriors

Bristol Rugby 23-19 Worcester Warriors

Ben Mosses crossed for an eightieth minute try to hand Bristol a nailbiting victory in front of a record Championship attendance on Sunday.

In front of over 8,000 supporters at Ashton Gate, the centre went over to seal a 23-19 win over newly relegated Worcester Warriors.

Andy Short and David Lemi also touched down for Andy Robinson’s men during a second half fightback.

The home side were forced to weather an early barrage from Worcester and, despite keeping the Warriors from crossing the tryline, Ignacio Mieres did land a penalty goal to put his side ahead.

The Argentinian fly half missed a long-range penalty opportunity soon after, but the visitors did eventually stretch their lead during a scrappy first period.

Following several phases of attacking phases, Mike Williams scrambled over in front of the Atyeo Stand for a converted score.

The flanker was sin-binned soon after for an off-the-ball incident and Matthew Morgan capitalized on Bristol’s numerical superiority, converting a penalty goal before the interval.

Andy Robinson’s men found a route back into the game when Andy Short collected Matthew Morgan’s perfectly weighted crossfield kick to muscle over for an unconverted try.

Ignacio Mieres and Matthew Morgan traded penalty goals to keep the scoreboard ticking over, before the Warriors fly half struck the upright with another attempt as Worcester piled on the pressure.

Tom Biggs and Sam Smith went close for Worcester in quick succession, only to be held out by a stubborn Bristol defence. Mieres did nudge Warriors 11-16 ahead, however, with less than fifteen minutes remaining on the clock.

But then the tide turned. First, David Lemi crossed for a sublime try, carving an opening to touch down for a converted try and handing Bristol the lead for the first time in the game.

Mieres looked to have sealed a win for the visitors when he struck another penalty goal, but Ben Mosses’ late show ensured a grandstand finish at the Club’s new home of Ashton Gate.
